SLEEPING SICKNESS

Not Every Fever is  Malaria.

A second patient from the north of Malawi and the sixth from southern Africa in less than 10 months has been admitted to  a hospital in Johannesburg. Travel Doctor reminds all travellers to avoid tsetse bites when visiting wildlife reserves in Southern Africa in the coming summer months.

Measles

1 Infected person will pass it on to 18 non-immune persons.

The highly contagious disease is spread by droplets through the air &
touching infected surfaces long after the infected person has left a room.

Your destination country(ies) and the country(ies) through which you will be transiting have specific COVID-19 testing requirements. These requirements change regularly. It is your responsibility to check the testing requirements that you must meet. It is important that you check, and keep on checking:

  • with your travel agent
  • the map on IATA Travel Centre - you can click on a country to see their latest entry requirements.
  • countries’ official websites, and
  • airline websites. Some airlines have their own requirements.

What we offer

We offer two tests to detect the virus that causes COVID-19: the RT-PCR test, and the Rapid Antigen test.

The RT-PCR test is a NAAT (nucleic acid amplification test), which is a new term for tests that use an amplification procedure to detect the virus. According to the CDC, NAATs are unlikely to return a false-negative result and remain the gold standard in COVID-19 testing.

We offer the Rapid Antigen test in addition to the NAAT test because some destinations or airlines require both tests.

Sprint testing*

Results in less than 24 hours for selected destinations
Some destinations such as the Netherlands and Denmark have a shorter validity period for a negative COVID-19 result. Other destinations like Finland do not have direct flights from South Africa. This means that travellers to these countries must take a RT-PCR test as close to departure as possible.
We guarantee RT-PCR results for these destinations in less than 24 hours at no extra cost.

*Only available at our Rosebank, Northcliff and Durbanville clinics
